Welcome everyone! This is the online discussion board for all participants in our June 21/22 weekend XC skills camp in Fernie, BC. Please introduce yourself on the forum, add a photo or two, and tell people what you do when you're not riding (job, hobbies, etc...)

Formal studies have shown that camp participants have 34.8% more fun when they get to know their fellow riding buddies beforehand*

Please note that we will not be checking the forum regularly. If you have a specific question about the trip, please contact our office: ride@sacredrides.com, 1-888-423-7849 (North America), or +1.647.999.7955 (int'l)

Hello!

I'm Danika one of your coaches. I'm a DH racer who loves to pedal up! I know thats pretty rare, but punishment can be fun! I XC for fun regularly, mostly riding the shore's less techy trails (if those exist) and SFU trails. I have also had the pleasure of riding XC in Kamloops (the flow!), Saturna Island (a secret sweet spot), Whitehorse (the views!!) and by my home in Maple Ridge.

I'm just finishing up my 3rd year in Kinesiology at SFU, and then I'll be on my bike all summer long (not a bad life!). I will be trying my first XC race too, just before our camp, so wish me luck! It will be interesting to do a race where getting a flat isn't necessarily going to put you out of the running.

I'm really looking forward to the camp in June and meeting all of you guys. Please post a little bit about yourself.
If you would like to contact me please feel free, at danikaschroeter@shaw.ca

Till later!
Danika

Hey Guys,

My name is Margaux. I live in Calgary. I have so far only done XC riding but I love it so I'm really excited for the trip. I work as a project manager at a software company downtown. This is my second year of riding.
I have never been to Fernie before and I'm hoping someone else who lives in Calgary will carpool with me? I can leave anytime on Friday, after lunch. I can go with someone in their car and split gas/driving or I have space for an extra bike in my car and can take someone. if you want to join me, please email me at margaux.porth@shaw.ca

I live in West Hillhurst, but that doesn't really matter.

Cheers,
Margs

Hi All;
I've been riding for 4 seasons now and consider myself a decent intermediate rider. I'm from Calgary and I do environmental work for an oil and gas company. Most of my riding has been in the Calgary/Kananaskis area so mostly cross country with the Spin Sisters Mountain Bike Club. I've also ridden in Utah/Moab/Fruita 3 times in the last year and a half (we're addicted), and will be doing a downhill camp for the first time in Whistler this summer. I've ridden the 24 hours of adrenalin twice and I also did my first ABA cross country race this year as a novice racer in Camore (came in 7th out of 9 - I didn't say I did well just that I did it) Wink I'm really looking forward to pushing myself at this camp (my second Sacred Rides Camp) and learning new/practicing my skills and building my confidence as we've barely been able to get out in Alberta this season as the weather has been so bad, so I'm really looking forward to getting on some decent trails.

See you all soon, here's to a great weekend!
Diana

Hi There,

Just wondering where we keep our bikes at night and when we're not riding? Do we need to bring locks? Can they sleep in our hotel rooms with us?

Margaux

There is a storage area at the Red Tree Lodge for the bikes. it is secure, so you can place your bikes in there when you're not using them. Very Happy
